I'm Special - no, not "all about me" kind ;-)

This is one of my favorite poems. I just found the bookmark with it that I made for Youth when I was teaching them. I'm going to write it down here so that I'll always have it. And I'm hoping this will become someone else's favorite!

I'm Special
In all the world there is nobody like me.
Since the beginning of time, there has never been another person like me.
Nobody has my smile. Nobody has my eyes. Nobody has my hair, my hands, my voice.
I'm unique.
No one can be found who has my handwriting.
Nobody anywhere has my tastes- for food or music or art.
No one sees things just as I do.
In all of time there has been no one who laughs like me and no one cries like me.
What makes me laugh and cry will never provoke identical laughter and tears from
anybody else, ever...
No one reacts to any situation just as I would read.
I'm Special.

I'm the only one in all of creation who has my set of abilities.
Oh, there will always be somebody who is better at one of the things I'm good at,
but no one in the universe can reach the quality of my combination of
talents, ideas, abilities, and feelings.
Like a room full of musical instruments, some may excel alone,
but none can make the symphony sound when all are played together.
I'm symphony.
Through all of eternity no one will ever look, talk, walk, think, or do like me.
I'm Special...
I'm rare... and, as in all rarity, there is great value.
Because of my great rare value, I need not attempt to imitate others.
I will accept- yes, celebrate- my differences.
I'm unique.
I'm beginning to see that God made me special for a very special purpose.
He must have a job for me that no one else can do as well as I can.
Out of all the billions of applicants, ONLY ONE qualifies,
ONLY ONE has the right combination of what it takes.
That one is ME, because...
I'm Special.
-Author unknown
I especially like the second paragraph, the symphony part. It's so easy to give up on things because we think so and so does this better etc. At least, it's that way for me. I often draw myself a goal when I find someone that I know of do what I wanted to achieve and realize that they are better or have more chances of achieving more and so on. Well, it's easy to find excuses. Just like my mom's food always taste better to me when she makes it, things have deeper dimensions and that special things behind is what makes things tastier, juicier, funner, more beautiful, etc. Mom's food taste better because I taste her love and smile with each bite too. Not only that, but just an example. This encourages me to start something. I hope you enjoy this poem.

My little man

Time has gone by so fast... It seems like we just barely had this little boy.
My water broke in the middle of the night and went to the hospital.
3hours later at 3am, he was born.

Today he turned 6month old.

On his first day home. Here he is 3 days old.
He weighed 5lbs. 3oz at birth. 4wks early.

Look how he is grown! Now he is 6 months old!
He weighs about 14lbs? Not so sure. Still small but surely growing.

He is doing "Airplane", the move before they start crawling. Scary...

"Here mommy, I can sit up!"

Well... not quite yet!

I still remember it well when I found out that I was pregnant. I was so confused and couldn't really think. Well, I stayed that way even when I was 8month pregnant.
Ever since he was born, we have more fun. We like to make him smile, laugh and sometimes even cry... hehe. Now he started solids, we enjoy seeing how he reacts to different food.

I never thought this baby will bring so much joy in us as a family.
I never knew how much his siblings will love and care for him.
I never knew how much I will be able to love him- so foolish.

Now that he is getting older, I know it will be more stressful chasing after him and making sure he is not eating whatever he is not supposed to. Yes, I will still wonder if he is a trial or a blessing but I know for sure now, he was and is supposed to be in this family - with us.

He is a little gift from up above. Baby, we treasure you.

And, last but definately not the least, thank you my friends for supporting me through.
You are so appreciated.

What did you say? Hamb...

She loves those stickers on fruits. She says she is a "cutie"(kind of orange)!

My 6yrs old daughter has a hard time pronouncing her"R". Maybe because she is half Japanese and lived in Japan while her language skill was developing, I don't know. Anyway, we try to practice with her so she doesn't have to go to the speech therapist.
Here's one of the practice we had with her in the car while driving to the movie theater.

My husband-"Miss S, say 'R'"

Miss S- "Ah"

MH- Hmmmm. Say Red

S- Wed
MH-What about "I want to marry a rich man"?

S-I want to marry a witch man

After watching Harry Potter, it might not be a bad choice actually.

MH- Then say Hamburger

S- Hambooger

MH-(while screaming) I WANT TO EAT HAMBURGER!!!

S-(screaming) I WANT TO EAT HAMBOOGER!!!!!

Then my husband started to sing a song that goes "There's a booger in my burger..."
followed by her song "there's a booger in my booger..."

I guess it's time to get the microscope so we can find a booger in her booger! lol!

She is now inspector Clouseau Junior! (If you have watched Pink Panther, you know what I mean!)

My sweet baby

I wanted to take picture of my new born before he gets too old and loses the "mold to you" stage.

I had seen a famous photographer's ad of a baby with bear. It was just so sweet, capturing the definate new born look(wrinkled grandpa kind) melting to a teddy bear.

I couldn't remember how it was positioned well, so this is what I took of him.

Bear, I got your shoulder down!! Ten, nine, eight...

My child's poem

I Am

I am a human
I wonder what I'll be when I grow up.
I hear talking.
I see words in my book.
I want to get strait As on all grades.
I pretend I have a lot of wishes.
I believe in myself.
I touch my desk.
I feel well.
I worry about nothing.
I cry for being hurt badly.
I understand people.
I love my family.
I am - a human.

This is the poem my third grade son wrote at school. The first two words were provided so he just needed to fill the rest. When his teacher gave this to me at Parents and Teachers' conference, I cried. It was embarrassing and I am sure I was not the only parent who cried over the child's poem in front of her but- I just couldn't help it.

When I read the part" I believe in myself" was the beginning. Then " I worry about nothing" "I understand people" and "I love my family".

As parents, we do not get visible things in return very often and we always wonder if we are doing an okay job or failing in some parts but this was one of the moments when I realized that we were doing at least some things right to have him write this. I know, it's simple things and he probably didn't mean anything deep. But now I know he has enough confidence in him to say he believe in himself. He has hopes- he worries about nothing. He understands people around him. And he loves his family. Maybe I am more sensitive because I am pregnant.

But it really gave me courage and strength to carry on. No matter what happens in the future and no matter how mean I appear to him, (well, mean is my middle name anyway) I hope he always come back to this poem and remember how he felt.

Ultrasound Visit!

I love how she put "HI, MOM!!" on the top left!

Finally this day was here. I had some sleepless nights because I was anxious.
I will find out a lot about this baby. A LOT. Development, gender, etc..

I had to drink 2 cups of water an hour before I went in. (Wasn't it more like a gallon of water before?? Anyway, 2 cups is much better.)
30min. later, I was called. I was ready to go to the bathroom!!!

She started measuring everything. I saw intestine, spine, and so on. She had a hard time taking shots of the mouth and nose since the baby covered the face with arms and legs. Okay, I saw a line and she called it "lip". Well? I guess if you say so;-)

This is the great one that shows the foot! We can see toes even. So sweet.

Heel on the right and the toes on the lefts.

At this time, the baby is about 6 inches. How big is this foot then?

And of course, we had to find out the gender. I guess it's a new thing not to find out these days but why not find out and prepare ourselves mentally when we can? I simply cannot wait that long and I am glad that my husband and I agree on this! Otherwise, it will be so difficult to keep a secret...

This is the first picture that tells...

He will probably not like this when he finds out that I posted this... Sorry! Your mom is a meanie! That's my middle name anyway:)
With this one, I was 90% sure that it would be a boy, just because of the way I listed on the previous post so no surprise-felt like I landed on the ground now.

Well, I feel very blessed. When we got married 16 years ago and for 3 years after that, I didn't even know if I could have a baby. Those days when I was going through the infertility treatment, I remember lying down, staring at the ceiling for hours, not knowing if we will ever be able to add a new one in the family.

I believe everyone who crosses our path had some kind of interactions before we were born. And in pre-existence, we must have been very close with those especially in the family who we interact with in daily basis, no matter how they are added.

I will see you again in person soon, my promised friend.
